PERKINS, Rosalie "Rosie"
(Hatmaker) (Age 66)

Rosalie Perkins, loving wife, mother, stepmother and grandmother, passed away November 22, 2008 into the arms of her Savior, the Lord Jesus. She was born on June 16th, 1942 to Ernest andInez Hatmaker in Grants Pass, Oregon. She graduated from Pacific High School in 1960 and from Southern Oregon College in Ashland, Oregon in 1964. She married Douglas Perkins in 1989.Rosalie's life was filled with her love for the Lord, her family, and her love for children. She was a wonderful mother and doting grandmother. She taught in various elementary schools in Oregon and Washington for 35 years. She saw many types of curriculum come and go and come back again. When she served on curriculum committees at her school, she would already know about the "new" curriculum and could tell the newer teachers what would work and what would not. Her gentle sense of humor and her infectious laughter were part of her loving, giving character. The teachers at her last school enjoyed hearing her laughter down the hallways so much that they made a tape recording of it, to play at her retirement party and also after she left to remind them of her. Rosalie had great energy and compassion which she poured into meeting others needs, in her family, at her church, and with her friends. It was a joy to be part of her life. Rosalie served in many ways at her church, with her greatest love being the children's ministries. She was a leader in Kids Club and Vacation Bible School. She was a Children's Church teacher, and served in Women's Ministries and on the Church Board. If there was a need, Rosalie would be there trying to meet that need. Rosalie enjoyed music, sewing, lighthouses, and craft projects. She had so many unfinished projects, that it became a running joke that Rosie shared and laughed about with others. It was partly due to the fact that she believed people and relationships were more important than completing projects. Lighthouses held special meaning for her, believing them to be a picture of Christ, who is our guide in the time of storm. Rosalie is predeceased by her brother, David, and by her first husband, Dennis Rice. She is survived by her husband, Douglas; parents, Ernest and Inez; daughter, Shannon; siblings, Ruby, Jim, Laneeta, Bill and John; stepdaughter, Debbie; stepsons, Dwayne and Darren. Her granddaughter, step and "adopted" grandchildren, in-laws and many other relatives will greatly miss her presence in their families. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Spokane Valley Wesleyan Church, 16607 E. Broadway Ave, Spokane Valley, Washington 99037, phone 509-924-9775. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Rosalie's memory may be made to the Children's Ministries of the Spokane Valley Wesleyan Church. A church and graveside service was held at Selma, Oregon on November 29, 2008.
